Love… that’s the post…
No, just kidding…but many times, we as people believe that love is the answer to all the world’s social ills. Love makes the world go around, right? We should love everybody, right? So, if that is every person’s belief, why don’t we show love to everyone? I didn’t say ‘why don’t we love everyone’…because we can say we love, but talk is cheap. Love is an action word. Before someone takes offense so soon, let me explain why I asked the previous question.
There are many songs published and recorded on the topic of love – Why Do Fools Fall in Love, Love Me Tender, Endless Love, Love Story, Make You Feel My Love, I Will Always Love You…you get the idea. But when I was preparing to write this post, a breakout hit by Tina Turner kept coming to mind – hence the title of the post. The lyrics are written from the perspective of a person starting to fall in love but does not want to because she is certain that she will end in heartbreak. So, she asks why love has to be a part of what she is feeling – and if she can have the same connection without it. I sense that as believers, we tend to live the same way. We want to experience the fullness of this Christian journey without placing our hearts in peril by extending ourselves entirely to other people. Now, let that sit and marinate for a minute… I’ll wait…
Ready? OK, I’ll continue…
